Getting inspired...around Shoreditch

Added on by Maja Jones.

I am still thinking about my recent weekend stay at the Ace Hotel in Shoreditch. I know, I know, it's hipster, it's uber cool but in a nice and friendly way. With all the nooks and crannies in a shape of a cafe serving great coffee, huge lobby (full of freelancers), lovely restaurant, cool bar, night club and rooms that are graphic designer's wet dream, you almost needn't leave the place. But there was a 100 years of Graphic Design exhibition to see and the rest of the Shoreditch to explore...

Infographics love

Added on by Maja Jones.

I do love a good infographic and I also used to work as a waitress in a pancake restaurant - such fun on a Pancake Day…

I thought it be quite apt to combine the two passions of mine and post some infographics I found in the run up to such an important day. You'd be surprised, there are quite a few of them.

Getting inspired...at the De La Warr Pavilion, Bexhill

Added on by Maja Jones.

The De La Warr Pavilion in Bexhill, is once again, a perfect setting for the Ladybird by Design exhibition, celebrating the well loved illustrations of Ladybird books from the late 50s to 70s. Curated by Lawrence Zeegen, author of the Ladybird by Design book and Dean of the School of Design at LCC. Go and see if you can!

Getting inspired...at the De La Warr Pavilion, Bexhill

Added on by Maja Jones.

If you were going to do/see one thing in the South East this weekend make that the Cut and Paste exhibition of Ivan Chermayeff’s work in Bexhill’s De La Warr Pavilion as it ends on the 14th September.

Seeing Chermayeff's work, it’s hard not to use the words inspiring and amazing. What makes the work of the 82 year old American born Modernist graphic designer and artist even more special is that it fits perfectly within Modernist De La Warr Pavilion which just happened to be co-designed by his father Serge Chermayeff.

If you are feeling inspired by the exhibition, there's a table with magazines and papers for your own "Assemblage"...

In a short film, in which he talks about his career and life, there are quite a few iconic logos that I never realised were designed by him! So inspiring to see that someone which such an artistic flare had also achieved a great commercial success.

Getting inspired... at Pick me up, London

Added on by Maja Jones.

Last week, my 6 year old and I went on a little adventure to London and visited the graphic design and illustration festival aka Pick Me Up at Somerset House in London. It was great to see how kid friendly the festival was.

Pick me up identity at Soemrset House

As any stationery lovers, we were both in awe of giant paperclips that were part of the Pick me up identity around the Somerset house.

My kiddo loved the giant Cat Island by Jessica Das

Jack Hudson's lovely prints...

Decorate your own wooden bricks...

We loved the letter painting with Animaux Circus's colours on a gorgeous pastel, watermelon theme.

Barcelona's Hey Studio lovely lettering prints...

And there was loads and loads more to see. One of my favourites was the room with Brighton's shop Unlimited, a room so packed with people that I didn't manage to take any photos!

And some goodies in the shape of 16 postcards of artworks from the festival...

The whole festival identity and collateral was designed by Studio Emmi.

It was fun and inspiring for both adults and kids alike. I've got me a new exhibition buddy and we can't wait to go back next year!
